further activities
1) The obvious thing is to get students to set up the tents you plan use at school. There are several equally obvious advantages to this, not the least that you will be able to make sure that all the bits & pieces are there & together.
2) Ask students – all of them or select students – to help you sort & repair stuff.
2) In the past I have got students to set up their tents a second time blind-folded. This simulates setting them up in the pitch black & is a fun challenge.
3) In the good old days of VCE Outdoor Education, a student of mine made a tent for one of his practical activities. He copied & improved the design of another tent, cut everything out, sewed it all up, made his poles. The result was awesome. (Another student made snow pegs.)
